Sharp Decisions recruitment took center stage at the Denver Veteran’s Job Fair last week on Thursday, April 13. Molly Gravatt, Vice President of our Denver office and recruiter Brian Abraham welcomed U.S. Military Veterans at Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium and introduced them to our award winning V.E.T.S. Program.
According to Molly, about 500 or more people were in attendance, and everyone who stopped by their table was excited to hear about V.E.T.S. and how it operates. Additionally, they were extremely interested in its training program.
“We were very impressed by the professionalism and positive attitude of those attending the event,” Gravatt said.
Veteran employment issues are fast becoming the focal point of today’s political and hiring agendas for many reasons. One main reason being the upcoming H-1B provisions planned by the Trump administration that will leave a huge talent gap behind. U.S. companies that sponsor these foreign workers will now have to look toward domestic talent, especially in the technology industry. Considering their training, ethos of dedication, deep-rooted culture of teamwork, and more, the most valuable resource to fill in that gap would be our highly-skilled U.S. military veterans.
Also, the U.S. Senate has brought up, and already passed, the HIRE Veterans Act that provides American companies with an added incentive system to employ veterans. The measure establishes a tiered recognition program within the Department of Labor to award employers based on their contributions to veteran employment.
A last point on V.E.T.S.: last year, as part of the fifth anniversary of Joining Forces, SDI announced its pledge to train and hire 500 veterans and military spouses over the next five years. Our company made this pledge at the White House event hosted by former First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden on May 5, 2016. We are committed to continue down the path to achieve this goal.
