As Independence Day approaches, we at Sharp Decisions believe it is important to honor and remember the ones who have fought tirelessly for our freedoms. As the V.E.T.S. Program reaches its fifth July Fourth, Sharp Decisions CEO Karen Ross has continuously impressed upon our company’s veterans, and the rest of our staff, that it is necessary for one to fight for what they believe in.
“I believe if you take a stand and you have a passion, you need to follow it through,” she said. “You need to get off the sidelines and play on the court.”
Ross reflected back on a significant time where she fought for something she believed in – the actual creation of the program. “The V.E.T.S. Program is something you have to believe in. Our veterans volunteer to put their lives on the line so that we can live safe and free.”
We have made it our mission to educate companies on the value of hiring veterans. These veterans are looking for a sustainable future with the same goals and aspirations as any other person. They chose the military, so let’s honor their skills and integrity.
Companies are relying on bottom-line profits, but what could be a better return on investment than hiring cohorts of veterans that know how to effectively work as a team to complete a mission?
Many companies have begun to turn the corner on truly understanding what it means to hire veterans, but there is still plenty of work to do.
One of the most famous excerpts from the Declaration of Independence, and perhaps the most famous in history, is “all men are created equal.” Ross strongly abides by this principle.
“I fight for what I believe in because all [veterans] should be equal and part of the community, as well,” she said. “I think that all men and, obviously, all women are created equal. It’s a fight, it’s an uphill battle. The key is community, collaboration and a solid business proposition.”
In honor of Independence Day, Ross vows to continue her commitment to the brave men and women who continue to fight for our freedoms. With a growing number of 25 percent veterans currently employed at Sharp Decisions, she refuses to give any ground until she hits the next company goal of 50 percent veterans on Sharp’s staff.
Have a happy and safe 4th of July!
