Freddie Mac, a major mortgage packager and reseller and anchor V.E.T.S. Program client based in Virginia, uses a Common Access Recertification Interface (CARI) to enable applications with internal authorization policies to provide necessary information for Access Recertification in a timely, reliable, automated and cost-effective manner. CARI Extracts for Selling System is a part of Web Methods/Apache Upgrade project. The client requires that applications generate extract files including error files associated with Account, Membership and Permissions. The CARI extracts and the physical location of the extract files are varied depending on user account set-up and application hosting.
Business Need or Challenge
The client’s Identity and Access Management (IAM) service, needed to re-certify the access of internal users and system accounts to platforms and applications. The challenge of this project was attempting to enforce better data quality and reduce future maintenance efforts by implementing a new user role and programmatic identification of existing user roles.
Sharp Decisions’ Solution or Participation
A Sharp Decisions V.E.T.S. Quality Assurance analyst supplemented the existing team of four Freddie Mac QA analysts and was given the specific responsibility for testing the extract and error files. Accomplishing this required Requirements Analysis, Test Case Design and Execution, Root Cause Analysis, and Reporting. The input that the V.E.T.S. QA analyst provided helped complete this project within a timely manner, even earlier than what was expected. The success exceeded expectations by identifying problems/defects early in the testing cycle. The constant communication between the client’s QA analysts and the Sharp Decisions’ QA analyst helped with this process. The training that Sharp Decisions provided as part of their V.E.T.S. Program was a major contributor to the success, as it prepared the Sharp Decisions QA analyst for application of customized SDLC on any project.
Benefit or Outcome
The success of the CARI extracts integration project made it possible for the client to create a standardized approach for collection access data from applications. This improved total cost of ownership eliminated the need for custom manual processes and reduced corporate risk by providing timely, accurate and efficient recertification. This also positions the client to improve the Enhanced Transfer Process by including the review of application access. The training provided by the Sharp Decisions V.E.T.S. Program enabled the V.E.T.S. QA analyst to exceed the clients expectations through defect discovery and remediation earlier in the SDLC than normally occurred, ultimately resulting in completing the project ahead of schedule.
